Ένα από τα πανέμορφα νησιά του Αιγαίου, με κρυστάλλινα νερά, απίστευτες παραλίες και μία Χώρα που δεσπόζει στην κορυφή του νησιού. Ξεχωρίζει βέβαια και με την πνευματικότητα και την μεγάλη ιστορία του, που αποτυπώνονται στα παρακάτω σημεία.

Το σκευοφυλάκιο-μουσείο της Μονής του Αγίου Ιωάννη Θεολόγου

Ένα από τα σημαντικότερα αξιοθέατα της φημισμένης μονής είναι το μουσείο- σκευοφυλάκιο. Εγκαινιάστηκε το 1988 στον εορτασμό των 800 χρόνων από την ίδρυση της μονής. Φιλοξενεί μεγάλης αξίας θησαυρούς της Ορθοδοξίας, όπως χρυσόβουλα, παλαίτυπα, παλαιά Ευαγγέλια και περγαμηνές, άμφια, ασημικά και εικόνες. Το σημαντικότερο έκθεμα είναι η περγαμηνή του πορφυρού κώδικα (τέλη 5ου -αρχές 6ου αιώνα). Το περιεχόμενο του Κώδικα είναι το Κατά Μάρκον Ευαγγέλιο που αποτελεί μια από τις πηγές του κειμένου της Καινής Διαθήκης. Σημαντικό έκθεμα είναι και το χρυσόβουλο του Αλεξίου Κομνηνού του 1088, με το οποίο παραχώρησε όλο το νησί της Πάτμου στον όσιο Χριστόδουλο. Πατώντας εδώ μπορείτε να κάνετε εικονική περιήγηση. Αρχοντικό Σημαντήρη

Κτισμένο το 1625, αποτελεί το παλαιότερο αρχοντικό σπίτι της Χώρας της Πάτμου στο οποίο έζησαν δέκα γενιές της οικογένειας Σημαντήρη, με τελευταίο απόγονο τον Στέφανο που το συντηρεί σήμερα. Στη διάρκεια της τουρκοκρατίας ήταν προξενείο. Θα εντυπωσιαστείτε με την αρχιτεκτονική, τις εσωτερικές αυλές, τη διακόσμηση, τα κειμήλια, τα ρωσικής κατασκευής έπιπλα. Ένα ξεχωριστό έκθεμα του μουσείου είναι ο ποδοκίνητος οδοντιατρικός τροχός που χρησιμοποιούνταν από τον οδοντίατρο Σημαντήρη και είχε κατασκευαστεί στη Νέα Υόρκη. (arxontikosimantiri.com)

Αρχοντικό Νικολαΐδη

Στο εξαιρετικά διατηρημένο αστικό κτίριο του 17ου-18ου αιώνα θα δείτε πώς ήταν εσωτερικά το παλιό σπίτι της Πάτμου με το φουρναριό, τις στέρνες, το παρεκκλήσι, τις κρεβατοκάμαρες, τη σάλα και τις επάνω αυλές. Υπάρχει έκθεση αρχαιολογικών ευρημάτων και πληροφοριακό υλικό για την ιστορία της Πάτμου από τους προϊστορικούς έως τους νεότερους χρόνους. (Tηλ. 22470 32709)

Πάσχα στην Πάτμο

Το νησί της Αποκάλυψης αποτελεί πόλο έλξης για τους πιστούς όλο τον χρόνο, όμως το πασχαλινό έθιμο του «Νιπτήρα» και του «Μυστικού Δείπνου» που αναβιώνει από τους μοναχούς της Μονής του Αγίου Ιωάννη του Θεολόγου, είναι διαφορετικό. Την Μεγάλη Πέμπτη ξεκινάει η πομπή από την μονή, με την εικόνα του Νυμφίου, και καταλήγει στην πλατεία Ξάνθου. Εκεί, γίνεται η αναπαράσταση του Μυστικού Δείπνου και του Νιπτήρα, κατά το οποίο ο ηγούμενος της μονής ρίχνει τρεις φορές νερό στην λεκάνη και πλένει το δεξί πόδι των ιερέων-μαθητών.

Το Μεγάλο Σάββατο το βράδυ πριν από την Ανάσταση, το Ευαγγέλιο διαβάζεται σε ηρωικό εξάμετρο με κώντιο και την Κυριακή του Πάσχα στις 3 το απόγευμα, στο Μοναστήρι της Πάτμου γίνεται η 2η Ανάσταση κατά την οποία το Αναστάσιμο Ευαγγέλιο διαβάζεται σε επτά γλώσσες. Η Ανάσταση στη Μονή του Αγίου Ιωάννη Θεολόγου με το Άγιο Φως από τα Ιεροσόλυμα και τα ξύλινα σήμαντρα, είναι μοναδική εμπειρία. Μπορείτε, επίσης, να πάτε στο προαύλιο της γυναικείας Μονής του Ευαγγελισμού, όπου δεν χρησιμοποιούνται μικρόφωνα ή βεγγαλικά.
