Museums

The Archaeological Museum of Mykonos has exhibits from excavations on Mykonos and Rhenia. There are tomb statues and stelae from the 2nd-1st century BC, a large collection of vases from the middle of the third millennium BC to the 1st century BC, and a large collection of statues from the 2nd century BC to the 3rd century BC. Figurines from the 2nd-1st century BC and jewellery from the same period are found but the most outstanding exhibit is the Mykonos Pithos with depictions of the Trojan War.

Aegean Maritime Museum

The exhibits depict the history of shipping in the Aegean from antiquity to modern times. The rooms, which are housed in a 19th century captain’s house in Tria Pigadia, show the history of the sea through models of ships from the pre-Minoan period to the end of the 19th century.

Folklore Museums

The ‘House of the Castle‘ opened its doors in 1962 and it is housed in a two-storey captain’s house from the 16th century. The six halls contain old furniture, a collection of Mykonian weavings, ceramics, and Neoclassical stone sculptures from old houses and churches.

In the Agricultural ‘Mill of Bonis’, a windmill from the 16th century, there is a collection of traditional Greek tools along with the interesting agricultural buildings of the open museum around it.

The “House of Lena“, in the area of Tria Pigadia preserves the traditional furnishings of a Mykonian house with a collection of embroideries and traditional costumes. (www.mykonosfolkloremuseum.gr).
