A winter holiday means excursions to the mountain, strolls in outstanding natural landscapes, surrounded by forests of tall firs and beech trees, burbling rivers, and, of course, a visit to a great ski center for play, exploration and some exciting routes on high, Olympic-standard pistes.
There are 24 ski resorts in Greece, of which currently, only 17 are in operation. These resorts, all of them with beautiful views and listed here, offer everything you may ask for and more. On-site or local shops rent or sell the necessary equipment so that you don’t need to bring anything with you. Lovely chalets with cafes and restaurants make for a scenic stop. Ski schools, lifts and dozens of pistes for skiers from the beginner level to the most advanced, are set out to welcome thousands of visitors.
The largest ski resort in the country is just two hours away from Athens and has great facilities to keep the whole family busy, with pistes for all skill levels. Arachova village is very close, something that ensures you’ll find comfortable or even luxurious accommodation, as well as countless bars, cafes and restaurants for a cosmopolitan weekend.
Parnassos ski center has 23 pistes, stretching 34 kilometers in total, and is a true meeting point for Athenians, and residents of the surrounding area. For several gelid, wintry months, the chalets and slopes are abuzz with activity every weekend.
The resort is just 180 kilometers from Athens, something that makes it an ideal destination for a winter daytrip, 160 kilometers from Patras, and 370 kilometers from Thessaloniki.

Very near to Volos, Pelion was the summer residence of the gods according to mythology, a fantastical land that ancient Greeks also called “Centaurs’ Mountain”. Whoever has visited agrees that it offers one of the lushest, most scenic, and most idyllic escapes in nature, year-round. You’ll find lovely hotels, great food, an enchanting view of the Pagasetic Gulf, crystal-clear sea waters, and a high-standard ski resort for endless slaloms on the snowy slopes.
The Pelion ski resort is just two kilometers away from the village of Hania and consists of five pistes stretching 15 kilometers in total. It has a chalet with a cafe and restaurant, a refuge, and a first aid center. It’s 350 kilometers away from Athens, just 26 kilometers from Volos, and 234 kilometers from Thessaloniki. If your trip will be snow-centric, then the best place to stay, apart from Hania, is the beautiful village of Agios Lavrentios is just eight kilometers from Agriolefkes, where the resort is located.

About 280 kilometers away from Athens, the Velouchi center has 18 slopes catering to the needs of even the most experienced skiers, as well as those for beginners and novices. At Velouchi, there’s also a ski school for first timers, as well as organized facilities for a pleasant escape in the snow.
Anyone spending a few days in one of the villages of Evritania can make a stop here, even if just for a coffee and to enjoy the beautiful snow-covered view. The ski center is 368 kilometers from Athens and just 12 kilometers from Karpenisi.
Seli welcomed its first visitors in 1943, during the Panhellenic Ski Games, and has an interesting history. At an altitude starting at 1,530 meters and reaching 1,890 meters, this popular ski center in northern Greece has challenging tracks, as well as three tracks suitable even for children at beginner level. It has a paved parking space that stretches 3,6 hectares, just 200 meters from the first lifts. It caters to 4,500 skiers per hour, while there are also cafes, restaurants, and playgrounds for the children.
The national Seli ski center is 24 kilometers from Veria, 20 kilometers from Naousa, 95 kilometers from Thessaloniki and 75 kilometers from Kozani.

3-5 Pigadia Ski Resort
Around 17 kilometers from Naoussa, 3-5 Pigadia is a fully organized spot with slopes suitable for every level of expertise and is a destination that fills with crowds from all over Greece. On the western side of Mt Vermion, the 3-5 Pigadia ski center is a place suitable for sports tourism, as well as for pleasant trips in the surrounding area. This ski center is quite far from Athens, 546 kilometers away, but much closer to Thessalonians, at just 109 kilometers.
At present, a tender is being staged to award the management of this historic ski centre to a new company, and everyone’s hoping that 3-5 Pigadia will be back in operation soon, welcoming guests in the same organised and fun way.

A small ski center in northern Greece, near Serres, stands out among the rest. And that’s because at Lailias ski resort you’ll find facilities with an air of adventure and quite a bit of romanticism. This lovely slope has a bonus: at night it is lit, which makes it suitable for night skiing, an experience you won’t forget easily. Try your hand at night-time slaloms daily from five to nine in the evening.
Just 26 kilometers from Serres, and 110 kilometers from Thessaloniki, the ski center is surrounded by a dense beech and fir forest, on the north side of Ali Baba, with just two tracks, both quite challenging and with three lifts that will satisfy visitors. The resort is 660 kilometers from Athens and it’s a creation of the Hellenic Alpine Club of Serres. It has a chalet with a restaurant, a canteen, and dormitories, as well as a rental shop and a ski school.

At the Kato Nevrokopi municipality, you’ll find the largest ski resort in the country’s Macedonian region. Among the verdant mountains, visitors will find 21 pistes and nine lifts (including three lifts for children) at a short distance from the town of Drama.
It was founded in 1980 by the Alpine Club of Drama to cater to the recreational and sports needs of the surrounding area. Its appeal grew wider, and the resort has now become a top destination for visitors from northern Greece owing to its proximity to Thessaloniki. The distance from Athens is 675 kilometers, about seven-and-a-half hours by car.
There are also three chalets, one of which, at 2,110 meters altitude, has a panoramic view, with restaurants, cafes, shops selling and renting ski equipment, and ski and winter sport schools.
On Mt Helmos, whose name means “snowy mountain”, the Kalavrita ski center in the Achaia prefecture covers an altitude of between 1,700 and 2,340 meters and is an attraction for thousands of visitors traveling here.
It’s one of the closest ski centers to Athens and consists of 13 slopes stretching 20 kilometers in total, for all levels of experience. The resort is surrounded by magnificent landscapes and is very near to dreamy Planitero. It lies 102 kilometers from Patras, 204 kilometers from Athens, and 553 kilometers from Thessaloniki.
A bonus for your visit here is the nearby National Observatory of Athens’ state-of-the-art telescope “Aristarchos”, the largest in the Balkans and the second largest in mainland Europe. Located at the Neraidorachi peak, at a 2,340 meters altitude, the telescope can capture images at a five billion light-year distance.
If what you’re looking for is a ski resort with easy pistes for joyful excursions with your kids, then this may become your favorite Greek winter destination. It has 10 pistes at different elevations that are accessible even for the most inexperienced skiers. The newest ski center in Greece also has a truly difficult slope that starts at 1,974 meters altitude and is suitable only for very experienced skiers.
One of the biggest advantages of this ski center is the fact that it is very close to the village Paleo Elatochori, just eight kilometers away, where you’ll find many guesthouses and traditional taverns that are renowned for their good food, while at the ski resort, there is a chalet, a ski school, and a first aid center.
The Elatochori ski center is 105 kilometers from Thessaloniki, 120 kilometers from Larisa, and 459 kilometers from Athens.
Around 22 kilometers from Kastoria, this ski center is one of the smallest ski centers in the country, with amazing slopes that fade into a beautiful beech forest.
The Vitsi ski center is a truly majestic natural spot, ideal for enjoying a deep sense of relaxation and calm near nature. It has a wooden two-story chalet with a cafe and a restaurant, a snow bar, and a rental shop.
Keep in mind that Vitsi is only open on weekends, plus Wednesdays and Thursdays between two and five pm. It’s 591 kilometersaway from Athens and 217 kilometers from Thessaloniki.
Vasilitsa ski center, known for its challenging slopes of Olympic standards, is situated at a magical location on the northwest part of the Grevena prefecture, in the heart of the Pindos Mountain range.
The ski center is 42 kilometers from the town of Grevena, first opened its doors in 1975, and is made up of 18 slopes that are marked in different colors. These are: black for the extremely challenging ones, red for the challenging ones, blue for the easy ones, and green for the very easy ones. Vasilitsa has seven ski lifts but only two downhill slopes, the Mt Dias and Mt Timfea pistes, suitable only for very experienced skiers.
The biggest plus of the Vasilitsa ski resort is the fact that it has snow even in spring, something that makes it the perfect destination for many months in the year. It’s 211 kilometersaway from Thessaloniki and 458 kilometers from Athens.
In Thessaly, 40 kilometers away from Trikala, the Pertouli Ski Centre has been a favorite destination for families with children over the past few years due to the easy slopes.
It has three pistes and three lifts stretching a total of two kilometers. You’ll also find three chalets with restaurants, cafes, and other facilities, while the ski center organizes ski nights, making Pertouli a very special destination.
Due to the modern snowplows, the Pertouli Ski Center never closes, even during periods of heavy snowfall, and it’s easily accessible even without anti-skid chains on your tires. Pertouli is 375 kilometers away from Athens and 256 kilometers from Thessaloniki.

Vigla Pisoderi Ski Center
At a location of unique natural beauty, with an amazing view of the Prespa lakes, the Vigla Pisoderi ski resort is one of the most idyllic winter resorts in Greece courtesy of the gorgeous beech forest that surrounds it.
The Pisoderi ski center is one of the oldest ski centers in the country, and its first lift was built in 1967. Today, you’ll find 10 slopes at altitudes ranging between 1,650 and 1,970 meters, as well as a lovely chalet, one of the most beautiful in Greece. Experienced skiers will find a new, exiting, Olympic standard route that is suitable exclusively for highly skilled skiers.
The Vigla Pisoderi ski center is 555 kilometers away from Athens and 178 kilometers from Thessaloniki and is one of the most popular ones in northern Greece.
Suitable for the country’s less experienced skiers, the small Mainalon ski resort in the prefecture of Arcadia offers many pistes for beginners and intermediate level skiers, making it ideal for becoming acquainted with skiing. At the same time, at the most mountainous spot, you’ll find a difficult track that will satisfy more experienced athletes.
On weekends, the Mainalon ski center fills with families, children keen to enjoy their leisure time on the slopes of this “mild” mountain with an amazing view of the thick fir forest, and a beautiful, hospitable chalet, perfect for relaxation in nature. Its proximity to many key towns of the Peloponnese makes the ski center quite popular even though it’s not ideal for people seeking adventure.
It’s 162 kilometers from Athens, 120 kilometers from Kalamata, 90 kilometers from Sparta and Nafplio, and just 30 kilometers from Tripoli.
Another ski center mainly for absolute beginners, the Ziria ski center is on mountainous Corinthia and is one of the newest ski resorts in Greece, having first opened in 2007.
One of its greatest advantages is the fact that it is near Athens, just a one hour and 45-minute drive away. Here you can swish down steep slopes and enjoy unwinding at its lovely chalet. This is, without doubt, the embodiment of relaxing winter tourism, matching the standards of central Europe’s big resorts.
