Kasteli, on the other hand, is a secluded, small beach boasting stunningly blue waters and white pebbles, situated under Angelokastro in the west of Corfu, very close to Paleokastritsa. Behind it are towering, imposing white cliffs. This little slice of heaven is only accessible by boat. Glyfada is another wonderful beach, with its golden sand and perfect waters. The settlement in the background and plenty of greenery make it even more attractive. You’ll find beach bars, sun loungers, and little tavernas right there on the spot. Paleokastritsa, with its unique surroundings, plenty of greenery, and high cliffs, also conceals beautiful beaches like Agia Triada, Agios Spiridon, Platakia, and Ampelaki. They’re well-equipped and offer various water sports opportunities.
Kefalonia
Myrtos: this beach is considered the island’s best and one of Greece’s finest. Now, I haven’t been fortunate enough to catch it in its prime, but I can’t help but include it. Gazing at it from above, you’ll itch to plunge into its cerulean waters. It’s a well-appointed beach, but there’s ample space for those who prefer to bring their own gear. Platys and Makrys Gialos, found in Argostoli, are graced with golden sands and an enticing sea. These beaches are fully equipped, even offering watersports for those keen. The lush greenery in the backdrop garners them some extra points.
Xi, on the flip side, is a unique spectacle. Its dark red sands make a beautiful contrast with the azure waters. The beach is punctuated with wave-smoothed white rocks and, of course, the quintessential beach umbrellas. Fteri is one of those beaches that look like they’ve been plucked from a postcard—fantastically blue waters, sparkling white pebbles gleaming in the sun. Towering white cliffs behind it lend it a raw beauty, softened somewhat by the green of the surrounding hills. The easy way to get here is by boat, while the more adventurous can take the footpath. But note, it’s not a managed beach.
Ithaca
Skinos is one of the Ionian Sea’s most beautiful beaches. Picture this: fantastically turquoise waters with a stunning backdrop of pine forests. It’s easy to reach and relatively peaceful. From Skinos, a path leads to another beautiful beach of the island, Gidaki. This pebbly beach, with its deep blue waters and steep green hillside, is a sight to behold. If you’re not up for the walk, you can visit by boat from Vathy. Afales beach is equally stunning, with captivating blue waters, pebbles, steep white slopes, and greenery. It’s not managed, so come prepared.

Lefkada
This place boasts two of not only the Ionian’s, but also all of Greece’s, most beautiful beaches—Porto Katsiki and Egremnoi. Think azure waters, imposingly tall cliffs, and white pebbles. Although you can reach them by road, the steps—which number around 300 at Egremni—can make things a bit challenging, especially on the way up. Of course, you can always opt for a boat. Above the beaches, you’ll find canteens to grab necessities, and usually, umbrellas are available for rent, saving you from lugging your own.

Zakynthos
The famed Shipwreck Beach is not only the most photographed beach on the island, but it’s arguably the most photographed in the country. It’s gained worldwide recognition, and honestly, if you haven’t set foot on this shipwreck site, have you really been to Zakynthos? This year, the landslides have kept the beach off-limits, but worry not! You can approach by boat, keeping a respectful distance from the shore, and take a dip in its mesmerizing waters. You’ll want to visit Gerakas in the southwest of the island too. It’s absolutely stunning. A beautiful sandy beach with pristine waters that harbor the eggs of the endangered loggerhead turtles, Caretta-Caretta. And mind your steps; there are designated areas on the beach where these little marvels are laying their eggs. Parts of the beach are organized for your convenience. The chalky white rocks with low vegetation resemble sand dunes, adding to the charm. But the beach closes around 7 pm, allowing the baby turtles to emerge from their eggs and find their way to the sea undisturbed.
The Xigia Beach in the northeast of the island is extraordinary. It’s a narrow strip of beach, flanked by impressively smooth, vertical cliffs on one side, and waters rich in sulfur, ideal for those suffering from rheumatism and arthritis. Porto Limnionas isn’t precisely a beach but rather a rocky area with abundant greenery and fantastic waters for endless swimming. You’ll find yourself lounging on the rocks and old concrete slabs where fishermen used to store their boats, soaking in the sun and sea. There are caves to explore, so bring a mask along.

Paxoi
One of the most beautiful beaches on Paxoi is Erimitis, situated on the western side of the island. It’s relatively new, having been created by an earthquake in the late 2000s. The dazzling white pebbles, unique blue waters, and the steep cliffs at the back make it unique. However, it’s not exactly an easy stroll to the beach if you’re coming by road. The hike down (and back up) might prove challenging unless you’re quite fit. The most convenient way is to visit by boat. Among the most beautiful beaches are Kaminia with its turquoise waters, Kaki Lagada with its lush greenery, and the small Kipos with olive trees, cypresses, pines, and mastic trees creating a stunning landscape. Also on the list is Voutoumi in Antipaxoi, featuring white cliffs topped with lush vegetation, incredibly clear blue waters, and pebbles.
Othonoi
Aspri Ammos on Othonoi is one of the most beautiful in the Ionian. The white pebbles, tall steep cliffs, and blue waters combine to create a breathtaking sight. Access is exclusively by boat, so ensure you’ve got all your essentials with you.
In these parts, the wine tastes richer, the sun feels warmer, and life, well, life just feels incredibly beautiful. This is the Ionian Sea, a place where nature, history, and culture intermingle seamlessly to gift us a destination that’s nothing short of paradise.
