Camping grounds are to be found almost anywhere you go in Greece, on beaches or very close to them. Campsites can cater to younger crowds or families. Some of these camping grounds are cherished by campers as they have offered – and still do – best-ever holidays; carefree holidays for which you don’t have to be up by 9 am because breakfast is served until 10 am.
On the contrary, camping holidays enable you to enjoy morning coffee any time, in bathers, by the sleeping mat, under the shade of pine trees, often alongside friendly neighbors you may have been enjoying drinks with at the same bar, or on the way to it, the night before.
Simos, Elafonisos
Where does one begin about the celebrated Simos campsite on Elafonisos island, just off the southeast Peloponnese? This facility is possibly one of Greece’s best-known, along with Armenistis in Halkidiki. The camping facility is situated by the amazing Simos beach. Highlighting the campsite’s appeal, the beach was named after it. The area, offering sand dunes, cedars and blue waters, is superb for carefree holidays. It is well serviced, shady, and filled with positive vibes.
The camping facility is equipped with a laundromat, kitchen, bungalows for travellers who may not be too keen to stay in tents, as well as a bar for superb cocktails at night. It also offers bicycles for rent, ideal for riding around the island and discovering its beauty.

Armenistis, Halkidiki
The campsite at Armenistis, Halkidiki is one of Greece’s most legendary. Friendship and love has blossomed – and been tested – under the shade of its trees. The tall plane trees of this camping ground, in business since the 80s, have seen it all over the decades.
The sea is directly in front, one of the bonuses, along with the fact that the camping ground is very well organised. It is equipped with a children’s playground, restaurant, snack bar, beach bar, boutique and a grocery-butcher shop. A variety of entertainment is offered in the evenings, events including djs, concerts, and film projections, plus music and dance workshops, as well as water sports. In general, this campsite has something for all. Despite definitely possessing a youth-oriented profile, it is also an ideal place for family camping.

Antiparos, Antiparos
In business since 1978, Antiparos, taking its name from the island hosting the campsite, has offered unforgettable summer holidays for travellers in the past, long before this island became a Cyclades hotspot, in the days when Antiparos was a more alternative destination for far fewer visitors. Despite the general shift on the island, highlighted by travellers sporting conspicuous brand-name fashion, the Antiparos camping ground has remained uncontrived. The camping ground still has its legendary La Luna disco, indicative of its 80s-era background.
The campsite is elegant, shady, well organised and next to one of Antiparos’ loveliest beaches. A small road starting from the campsite’s entrance and passing through an area with reeds leads to a superb sandy beach with cedars and exceptional waters. This beach is nudist-friendly.

Aigiali, Amorgos
The Aegiali camping ground on Amorgos was an instant hit among alternative holiday seekers, and remains popular for this category of visitors, a reflection of the island’s profile. Small colourful tents hosting young campers are set under tamarisks, olive and lemon trees at this campsite, just 200 metres from Aegiali beach. Though the camping ground is serviced, covering all necessities, plus extras, its principles are more aligned to free-camping ways.
The Aegiali camping ground is relaxed, uncontrived and sociable. On numerous occasions, just one camper with a guitar has managed to bring together the entire camping ground.

Papa Nero, Pelion
This camping ground is a favourite as it is in Pelion, a location combining mountain and sea, and also because it is situated alongside one of the region’s loveliest beaches, amid a 2-hectare plot of land. The lush setting is an oasis. A stream runs to one side of the camping ground, while the Aegean Sea, including the lovely sand-and-pebble covered Papa Nero beach, are spread before it. If you have had enough of the sea, head up to the beautiful Pelion villages for a drink of tsipouro or walks along countless shady trails. Permission to the Papa Nero camping ground is strictly restricted to its campers. A walk to Damouhari for a drink will take about 40 minutes to cover, if you desire a car-free holiday. If you don’t feel like leaving the campsite, it plays good music and offers lovely conditions for a glass of wine under tall plane and eucalyptus trees.
