The Athens Shopping platform, a novel project that resulted from an ongoing collaboration between the Athens Municipality and the Athens Traders Association, has been created to enable users in Greece and anywhere in the world to discover the Greek capital’s quality shops.
Searching by product category or by region, digital shoppers now have access to a directory that guides them to stores of every variety, selling everything from clothes, accessories and jewellery to electrical goods, home décor items and beauty products. The directory is currently in Greek but an English language version will soon be made available.
“Strengthening the Athens market and stimulating the city’s economy is at the heart of every initiative and action undertaken by this municipal authority, said Kostas Bakoyiannis, the Mayor of Athens. “With the Athens Traders Association, we have developed a valuable, continuous collaboration, jointly implementing a series of actions for the benefit of professionals who run businesses in the centre and in Athens’ 129 neighbourhoods. “Athens Shopping” is an important initiative that we hope will receive a warm response from professionals and consumers alike, showcasing the great quality and the dynamic of the Athenian market.” Created by the Athens Development & Destination Management Agency (ADDMA) and currently in its pilot form, “Athens Shopping” has called to shop owners and businesses in Athens to register free of charge to promote their products, services and special offers.
The President of the Athens Traders Association, Stavros Kafounis, said: ‘The Board of Directors of the Athens Traders Association and I personally, are very pleased because a request by the Greek capital’s commercial world is being actualised. Our collaboration with the Municipality of Athens and ADDMA has resulted in the creation of Athens Shopping, the first comprehensive Commercial Digital Guide, which aims to promote the market to Greek and foreign consumers in an easy to navigate and friendly digital environment… I invite all colleagues who have stores within the Municipality of Athens to register on the athensshopping.gr platform.”
