Fly to Greece
Book a flight to Makedonia Airport (SKG) in Thessaloniki, which is the international airport nearest to Thasos. Several airlines offer direct and connecting flights to Thessaloniki from various cities worldwide.
Travel to Kavala or Keramoti: From Thessaloniki, choose between renting a car (you can leave the Avis hire car from Thessaloniki at the Kavala office), taking a bus, or arranging a taxi to travel to Kavala or Keramoti, the two mainland ports with ferry connections to Thasos. The distance from Thessaloniki to Kavala is approximately 160 km (100 miles), taking about 2 hours by car, while the trip to Keramoti is around 210 km (130 miles), requiring roughly 2.5 hours of driving time. Buses operated by KTEL leave from Thessaloniki’s central bus station to both Kavala and Keramoti at regular intervals.
Take a ferry to Thasos
Upon arriving at Kavala or Keramoti, board a ferry to Thasos Island. The ferry from Kavala arrives at Skala Prinos on the island’s northwest coast, while the one from Keramoti docks at Limenas (Thasos Town) on the northern side. The journey from Kavala takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and the crossing from Keramoti takes around 35 minutes. Ferry schedules vary depending on the season, and it’s advisable to check the timetable in advance.
