Getting There
By air
Sitia Public Airport (JSH) receives a few weekly flights from Athens and the Dodecanese, and some seasonal services from European countries and it can serve as a gateway to the tremendous coastline at the far eastern margins of Crete. Most visitors, however, will arrive at Heraklion International Airport (HER) also known as Nikos Kazantzakis Airport. Direct flights connect with Athens, other islands, and many European cities, especially during the summer months. Upon arrival, you can rent a car or take a bus or taxi to Lasithi, which can take from 1-3 hours depending on your destination within the region.
By ferry
Ferries connect the Greek mainland to Crete, with most routes linking to Heraklion. Although there are a few ferries that travel from Athens (Piraeus Port) to Sitia, the main port of Lasithi, they are infrequent. It is generally more convenient to reach Lasithi from Heraklion, and ferries operate daily between Piraeus and Heraklion, taking around 6-8 hours. During the summer months, Heraklion is also connected to several islands in the Cyclades and Dodecanese, such as Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, Milos, Karpathos, Kasos, and Rhodes. Once you arrive in Heraklion, you can rent a car or take a bus or taxi to Lasithi.
By bus
From Heraklion, you can take a KTEL bus to various destinations in Lasithi, including Agios Nikolaos, Ierapetra, and Sitia. The journey takes between 1-2 hours, depending on the destination. You can find bus schedules and ticket information on the KTEL Crete website: www.e-ktel.com
