At the end of May, Mykonos transcends its eccentric persona to reveal a serene and captivating side. Nature is in full bloom, and the beaches are free from the usual summer crowds. The pace is more relaxed compared to the island’s typical frenzy, allowing both beloved old haunts and new hotspots to showcase their true charm.

10

At this time of year, Mykonos transforms into a cousin of New York City – vibrant, relentless, and ready to fulfill every desire, but with more sunshine and no subway. Just before the yachts anchor and celebrities occupy every available sunbed, the island can become your very own microcosm. Whatever you want, whenever you want it, is available like nowhere else in Greece. Want to see the global elite up close? Psarou offers just that, with impeccable luxury, a generous dose of celebrities, and, of course, matching prices. Need a break from everyone and everything? A solitary escape to Fokos will reward you with the tranquility of the landscape, rivaled only by the deep blue of the Aegean before you.

To truly experience Mykonos, even for just two or three days, skip the parties, indulge in retail therapy if necessary but with restraint, ignore the so-called must-sees (except Delos, which is worth the effort), and prepare yourself (mentally, physically, and financially) for its gastronomic scene. Here, food and the experience surrounding it are the true attractions.

In 2024, once again, your options are endless. Apanemi offers modern Greek cuisine of high standards, while Nolan (opening on July 18) brings a touch of Athenian elegance to the island with Asian flavors. For a taste of Paris (or maybe Dubai), try the revamped Bagatelle House (open from late May) in Chora, set in a scene designed to feel both familiar and exotic. If you prefer something more traditional, stick to the classics like the French-inspired Katrin, the delicious Sale e Pepe, or the simple Mediterranean Kastro’s, all located in Chora. Wondering where the locals eat (hint: not just at home)? Maereio on Kalogera Street is a hidden gem. For farm-to-table enthusiasts, Rizes in Ano Mera is worth the visit. Beefbar Mykonos (opening from late May) in Agios Ioannis offers top-tier meat dishes in a unique setting, as does Kuzina in Ornos. Finally, if simplicity and authenticity are your criteria, the taverna at Fokos—next to the beach of the same name—and Kiki’s in Agios Sostis offer exactly what you’re looking for. (Since openings can vary, we recommend making reservations.)

If food is one highlight of the island, its stunning beaches are the other. Elia is as international as an episode of Star Trek, with its center-right section offering the best experience. Lia is the choice of those with homes on the island, with deep waters reminiscent of swimming in the Aegean during our childhood. For free spirits, Agios Sostis offers a boho-chic atmosphere without the chaos of umbrellas and the (pleasant) madness of beach clubs. Scorpios is an attraction unto itself and is especially visitable now. Kalo Livadi attracts the proper Athenians, Ftelia, with its constant wind, is the best choice for windsurfing enthusiasts, and finally, Mirsini is the (very remote) destination for those who want to be alone, even in Mykonos, for a little while.

Located approximately 20 minutes from Mykonos Town (Chora), Mykonos Lolita is a relatively new destination perched above Agios Sostis. It exudes a vintage charm without feeling dated, reminiscent of a more innocent Mykonos. While inherently luxurious, it avoids unnecessary extravagance and perfectly meets the fundamental needs of the modern traveler. The rooms and suites are arranged over two levels, and there is also a villa within the complex for those who are particularly fond of the area.

The surrounding environment remains untouched, brimming with the island’s vibrant energy. Adding to the allure is a path that provides access to a “private” beach, the perfect hideaway for those seeking tranquility away from the crowds. Additionally, there are various options for water activities. The waters of Mykonos retain the enchantment that has made the island legendary, inviting guests to explore them under the guidance of the trained staff.

If you find yourself there, breakfast at Mykonos Lolita is an experience in itself. It is served on a charming wooden balcony perched on the edge of a cliff. Guests can enjoy fresh, seasonal, and local products, with additional vegan and gluten-free options, along with a selection of organic and biodynamic wines.

The best part is the reasonable pricing. Given all these, Mykonos Lolita might just be the smartest choice for accommodation outside Mykonos Town.
