Thesprotia, one of the jewels in the mainland’s crown, is home to several destinations that, though not immediately apparent, enchant with their enchanting waters – Syvota and cosmopolitan Igoumenitsa being prime examples.
Thus, mountainous Perdika, a few kilometres from Syvota and twenty minutes from Parga, is an option that, although unknown to most visitors to Epirus, uniquely combines mountain and sea within a short distance. Perdika, situated on a hill between Syvota and Parga, faces the Souli mountains and at its “feet” lies a series of famous and enchanting beaches. This combination makes it an ideal destination from spring onwards. Easily accessible from the main motorways, it is a prime location for those departing from major urban centres. Perdika’s central square serves as the real focal point, where visitors can find literally everything: restaurants, café-bars, all the retail outlets, as well as an amphitheatre that hosts the village’s cultural events throughout the year.
Streams, forests, plains, rivers, and crystal-clear waters compose the entirety of Perdika’s travel experience, lending it a distinct beauty, while the unique history of the place leaves visitors deeply moved. Among other attractions, the village, with about 2000 permanent residents—doubling in summer—boasts the stone-built chapel of Saint Athanasius, dating back to 1811, within an olive grove. Your visit deserves the inclusion of Agia Paraskevi, literally built upon the rocks next to the waves with an islet nearby, drawing numerous visitors.
Adjacent lies one of Perdika’s most beautiful spots, the National Park of Wild Animals, a wooded area of approximately 2000 acres with a significant part of the Paramythia river, featuring shaped paths and many bridges. It’s noteworthy that Perdika boasts several interesting and unique beaches: Agia Paraskevi, Arillas, Mega Drafi, Agia Paraskevi with the islet, and the famous Karavostasi. A stroll here is worth it, or for the more adventurous, a first dip with the arrival of spring.
When it comes to dining, all the grill houses and tavernas of Perdika are spread out across the village’s vast central square. “Taverna Thaleia” and “O Mysterios” are some great choices for cooked dishes, while the grill houses “Oneiron Geuseis” and “Vetoulis Grill House” as well as the family pizzeria “Karvounis Family Pizza” are excellent options for grilled dishes and pizza.
As for your accommodation, there are plenty of hospitality options (guesthouses, pensions, rooms) available on well-known short-term rental platforms. Additionally, hotels such as Olivista Boutique Hotel and Apartments Villa Rania are excellent choices for those who prefer more traditional hospitality options, while Syvota and Parga also offer additional choices.
