Noah and Six D.O.G.S, both offering urban gardens, Zurbaran, filled with class, Juan Rodriguez, an exotic place with theatrical décor, Pere Ubu, offering sense of escape, and Mr. Fox, very stylish, are great options for magical spring nights out in Athens.

Mr. Fox, featuring a London-like Blue interior, velvet upholstery, wooden fittings, impressive forest-themed wallpaper, an imposing staircase that leads to an engrossing art section with over 100 leading works of art, and an arched bar, serves innovative, surprising mixes for signature cocktails. The spot’s bar-dining space is uncontrived, the music is playful and groovy, while the staff here is at the top of its game.

Noah

Though resembling a spot that could well be on an island, or at a Latin American yard, Noah is an all-day spot in the centre of Athens. A project put together by Eleni Saranti and Electra Rigou, Noah serves coffee and brunch from the early hours of the day, followed by lunch and, later in the day, sophisticated dinner options. The spot’s stylish cocktails are curated by Vassilis Nikitas.

The music, ranging from ethnic, electronica to house, boosts the spot’s vibe, which is further enhanced by the sweet summer air and, most importantly, Noah’s team, a lively bunch whose energy livens up the entire place. Noah’s presence is a welcome addition to Eleftherias park, a popular Athenian spot, next to Megaron Mousikis, the Athens Concert Hall.

Zurbaran

Many bars have been defined by their location. The opposite is true in the case of Zurbaran, which has influenced the up-market Kolonaki district rather than take its cue from it.

The spot’s food mostly focuses on international cuisine with modern touches. Zurbaran combines its classy neighborhood’s style with a rejuvenating vibe, ensured by this all-day bar restaurant’s overall offering. The spot’s principles are based on quality food and cocktails, both reflected by the spot’s design, respectful of Kolonaki’s urban style, but with a modern twist. Landscape architect Elli Pagalou has done a magnificent job with the outdoor space. These aspects have all combined to quickly establish Zurbaran as an attraction.

Pere Ubu

More than just an attraction in Athens’ seaside south, Pere Ubu is a bar that makes spring and summer in the city a delight, offering a sense of urban escape from the early midday hours and a menu curated by gifted chef Kostas Tsigas. The all-day spot describes its menu as “an ode to comfort food, with a vegetable-forward philosophy.” This spot has generated attention for off-centre Kyprou St in Glyfada.

Six D.O.G.S.

This place, established as a focal point for the city’s alternative music scene, also features a restaurant offering a full menu, as well as a big back garden that is a true oasis in the city centre, especially now that hotter days are approaching. Indie-circuit gigs staged here are arguably among the city centre’s finest, along with those offered by Bolivar. This complex contributed to Athens gaining a reputation as “the new Berlin”, even though, it should be pointed out, each city ought to stand alone as a separate entity.
