Skopelos, one of the most verdant islands in the Aegean, is covered by pine forests, which account for 67% of its total land surface. Every year, numerous visitors arrive, some on private boats and yachts, drawn to the island’s crisp aquamarine waters and immaculate beaches, high-quality accommodations, and picturesque villages.

10

The island has its own unique cuisine and a diverse range of food options, and you can enjoy your meals at classic fish tavernas by the sea, village tavernas grilling top-quality meats to order, and elevated eateries dishing out European and Mediterranean cuisine. One of the island’s most famous delicacies is the homemade twisted ‘Skopelitiko’ cheese pie.

Agnanti

Food is served on a lovely balcony overlooking the sea, even though it’s located in the village of Glossa, almost 1 kilometre away from the sea. Agnanti honours its name (it means looking at the view in Greek) by offering a unique view, so it’s great at sunset and we recommend you book a table to visit it then. It’s been in business since 1953 and is now run by the fourth generation. They grow their herbs and vegetables at their garden, they collaborate with the island’s fishermen and source the best quality meat. Try the asparagus salad, the seafood orzo “risotto”, the gurbell, and also the Alonnisos’ tuna stew.

Korali

You can taste seafood at its best at the bay of Agnontas right next to the sea. It’s one of the few places where it is worth ordering lobster pasta or large fresh fish. You mustn’t miss out on their mezes, especially the sea-urchin salad, the fava (yellow split pea puree) with the smoked eel and the mussels saganaki (mussels with tomato sauce and feta cooked in a small skillet). The wine list includes many Greek labels, while at the end of your meal you will be offered a delicious complimentary homemade dessert.

Pavlos

In the shade of trees and next to the sea this tavern at the bay of Agnontas has been serving fresh fish and seafood for decades. Try the red porgy and the grilled octopus, the shellfish and the calamari, but also the seafood pasta, the sundried gouna fish and the stuffed sardines. The appetizers, like the kritamos (samphire) salad picked from the rocky shores of Skopelos and the homemade tzatziki are also very tasty.

Michalis

You’ll find the best traditional Skopelos cheese pie at Michalis’. Crispy and nicely fried, but light without being too oily, the filo dough and the filling is prepared after you order. That’s why you’ll have to order, take a twenty-minute stroll and return. They make their own filo dough, they use top quality feta cheese, and apart from the plain cheese pie you can also try a cheese pie with tomato and peppers. The bougatsa (sweet pastry made with filo filled with custard) is also extremely tasty and served with icing sugar and cinnamon. The pies are large and quite filling.
