Relaxation never measures square metres. If a large house doesn’t meet its requirements, it chooses to leave. Relaxation only nestles where the conditions are favourable, it seeks a view of nature, and is thrown off by excess. It loves natural materials and despises noise.
A 70 m² loft in Metsovo, surrounded by firs is the Pontikas Architects’ team’s new project: a space created to help you relax, giving you an unobstructed view of the natural environment outside.
A single, functional space becomes the setting for daily relaxion for anyone who chooses it. “The mountain tops in the southeast side offer an unobstructed view to the visitor. The interior, hidden within the trees and protected from the noise of humans, is in constant conversation with the outdoors environment. This conversation can be seen from the materials used and also from the careful design of the openings” the team of the Pontikas Architects’ firm mentions.
The dominant material used is wood, something that creates a warm atmosphere, decompressing the body from the stress of everyday life.
A big advantage of this loft is the smart storage spaces that have been harmoniously incorporated in the space: they give comfort, and their capacity increases the loft’s functionality. “The main elements of a house, like the bathroom, the bedroom and the fireplace have been seen as features scattered in the space, maintaining at the same time their functional dimension” the team said.
The kitchen is particularly impressive, as it’s a kitchen with a lot of storage that makes cooking a pleasant activity. The dining room colours perfectly match those of the kitchen.
The space has been stripped of the superfluous design items. The windows are “decorated” by the view of the natural environment, opening onto the horizon.
“The use of black glass functions as a mirror in a constant game of interchangeable forms and masses underneath the natural light. A game between presence and absence, that creates a feeling of silence without distracting visitors. Through two openings the weather is present in the space daily, making visitors the audience of the constant movement of Nature. The use of mostly sustainable materials maintains the relationship between the exterior and interior and adds to the home’s sustainability” the Pontikas Architects’ team adds.
A loft in Metsovo makes “escape” a permanent condition.
