Called by many “the Lady of the Cyclades” because of its unique and colourful Hora –the main town on the island-, Syros manages to maintain its splendour through its contrasts, while also satisfying the increased tourist demands.

A 200 sq.m summer residence offering the maximum possible view of Plagia bay from every angle, able to host a sociable couple and their company, as it features four guest rooms. The building gives the impression that no matter how many disparate spaces it has, the whole is unified under one single roof slab, overlooking the Aegean Sea.
The original rectangular volume with its large openings –passages on all sides- conveys the feeling that there are no cul-de-sacs; the Aegean opens up new horizons. As the architectural description of the building puts it “The volumes are set next to each other, under a united roof slab, facing the magnificent view of the bay”.
The entrance lies at the back of the building, following a gentle descent through small courtyards planted with local aromatic herbs –the scents and aromas have been carefully selected so that the environment elevates the senses to a higher level. The main volume of the building houses the public areas, while the slightly higher volume, covered in local masonry, houses the couple’s private space.
The design of the four guesthouses was significantly varied. The main desire was to create spaces that would be independent but would also have direct access to the pool and the common areas of the main building. The configuration of the outdoor area follows the topography of the natural landscape through paths and different levels that define areas of relaxation either exposed to or protected from the sun. This gives one the feeling of being in a shell; a sense that the building has always existed, as part of the natural landscape. The heart of the building lies in the space between the main house and the guesthouses, where, during the sunny summer months, everyone can relax and enjoy the Aegean.
