Architects are storytellers.
They make stories ready to be experienced. They set up for well-being. They deconstruct the impossible and build the imaginative. The building materials know no limits; they are capable of constructing any design the mind dares to envision.
The Lap Pool House in Tinos. The team of the Aristides Dallas Architects office has created a residence, inspired by the rocks’ ledges, that emerges from the natural landscape like a manmade cave.
Visual Miracle
The house looks like a small city where everything moves effortlessly. The image of comfort. Inside the residence, the dialogue with the horizon is constant. Blue, in all of its shades, dominates the space and becomes the protagonist in visual miracle-setting.
The entrance is through a rupture on the back of the building while the smaller cracks around the room allow/permit the light and the air to enter. The three structures of the Lap Pool House are built on a single concrete slab with the room planted on it making it appear like the natural extension of the ground.
“The two solid structures protruding from the slab vertically to each other and on the other side of the main building are private spaces, one bedroom and one guest room. On the same space there is a protected semi-covered open area that frames the view offering the sense of a refuge” the team of the Aristides Dallas Architects office mentions.
A permanent place in the horizon
The element of water invades the living room that is painted in shades of terracotta, white and black. Minimal decorative elements contribute to the powerful yet subtle aesthetic impression. The permanent view of the horizon in every space of the house allows the eyes no other option than to be captured and carried on visual journeys.
Two design chairs at the outside space become observers of the games the light plays during the day and become the means towards achieving total body relaxation.
“The building’s whole dynamic is emphasized by the linear shape of the pool that protrudes from the ledge and leads the eye to the horizon” the project’s architects mention.
If the present is the prerequisite of the future, then the Lap Pool House in Tinos shows that the next day of architecture holds a new living suggestion.
