Charalambos Giannikopoulos, founder of the pioneering consulting firm DCarbon, will be one of the speakers at the major conference of Travel.gr on Greece and Tourism, to be held on November 16 at the Lighthouse of the SNFCC. “Climate change differs from the challenges that the tourism sector had to manage until today. “I am particularly pleased to participate in a conference, which I hope will constitute an institutional field for fruitful reflection on the future of tourism on sustainable terms, synergies, and convergences,” Giannikopoulos says.
“The ongoing global crisis with the pandemic, migration, and wars are dramatically shifting the foundations of tourism development in this new era. Moderation, prevention, and inclusion are fundamental components for sustainable tourism development,” he says.
Giannikopoulos is an Architect Engineer (NTUA) and holds an MSc in Environmental Design & Engineering (UCL). He has extensive experience in large and international projects, having participated in prominent commercial, industrial, tourist, and educational projects, including managing the majority of LEED and WELL projects in Greece, as well as projects in ESG, real estate portfolio rating, green bond frameworks, and carbon emission reduction strategies for development and real estate management companies.
His involvement in providing sustainability services for the hospitals of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, donated to the Greek state and designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, ranks among his most significant projects.
