“We must be ready by the end of March, as the new tourist season will commence on April 1st, regardless”, said Vassilis Kikilias, Minister of Tourism, during his speech via videoconference at the annual general meeting of the Rhodes Hoteliers Association.
Mr Kikilias gave special thanks to the hoteliers of Rhodes and the President of the Association, Mr Manolis Markopoulos, both for the operation of the quarantine hotels that supported not only Rhodes, but also the entire Greek tourism industry, and for the increases in the wages of the island’s hotel employees during this critical two-year period.
The minister also pointed out that the contacts he made in the recent International French Travel Market were very positive and, at the same time, the travel agents’ booking figures for 2022 are really promising.
“The aim of the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is to extend the tourist season. We seek quality in tourism, but we are also interested in occupancy,” he stressed.
Ultimately, Mr Kikilias announced that he will soon visit Rhodes in order to discuss with all stakeholders and tourism workers in view of the new tourist season. “Your experience, your ideas, your suggestions and your needs will decisively help the Ministry of Tourism and will be taken into account in our next campaign”, he concluded.
