The course of tourist arrivals in October for South Aegean destinations seems impressive. The direct international arrivals of just the three first days of the month exceeded 69.000, a higher number than the same days of September.
We should note that just in one day, on Saturday October 2, the Rhodes Airport welcomed 14.974 passengers via 93 direct international flights, numbers that resemble those of the best days of August.
September’s recovery in comparison to 2019 was at 85%
September numbers were very satisfactory for all 5 international airports of the South Aegean that handled 4.852 international flights carrying in total 624.525 foreign passengers, achieving 85% recovery in comparison to 2019.
More specifically, Rhodes welcomed over 300.000 international arrivals in September, the majority of which from Germany at 26%, Britain followed at 17%, Poland at 8%, Holland at 5% and the Czech Republic at 4%. The Rhodes Airport reached an average of 10.200 daily arrivals, while the day with the most arrivals was the last Saturday of the month with 14.500 arrivals. Rhodes achieved a recovery in the first autumn month, in comparison to 2019, of around 80%. Kos was at 78% of the 2019 September arrivals in September this year, with around 150.000 arrivals on 1.164 flights and an average of 5.000 passengers from abroad per day. Among them, the majority was from Germany at 39% and the British follow at 18%, the Dutch at 12%, the Polish at 8% and the Belgians at 4%.
The third international airport of the Dodecanese, that of Karpathos, welcomed 10.181 passengers in September, via around 100 flights, more than the total of the whole tourist season of 2020.
Mykonos reached incredible recovery hights, exceeding 92%, in comparison to September 2019, as it welcomed 62.983 international passengers via 601 flights. Most passengers arriving to Mykonos in September were from Britain at 25%, then from Italy at 18%, from France at 15%, from Germany at 13% and from Switzerland at 7,6%.
Santorini broke all records
Santorini is the South Aegean island where the 2021 numbers don’t show a recovery in comparison to 2019 but a huge improvement, as the air arrivals on the island in September exceed those in 2019 by 17.000 passengers. In particular, the island welcomed 97.038 passengers from abroad via 815 direct international flights. Like in Mykonos, in Santorini too the British were the majority of September visitors at 20%. Italians follow at 18%, French at 16%, Germans at 11% and Polish at 6%.
Over 2.800.000 international arrivals at the South Aegean airports
According to the September data, the South Aegean destinations have welcomed via direct international flights more than 2.5 million visitors. Adding to those the visitors arriving through connection flights from the Athens International Airport, until September 30th, the South Aegean has welcomed 2.815.210 of the foreign travellers visiting the country.
