September has started well for tourism in the islands of the Cyclades and the Dodecanese, as can be deducted from the number of international arrivals in the 5 international airports of Rhodes, Kos, Karpathos, Santorini and Mykonos in the first ten days of September.
More particularly, between 1 and 12 September, more than 2.000 aircrafts have landed on the islands, transporting more than 270.000 passengers from abroad, more than half of those during the same period last year.
1 million direct international arrivals in Rhodes
From the 270.000 passengers, 128.209 chose Rhodes for their holidays, making the total of passengers to arrive to the island from the beginning of the tourist season around 1 million. This means that Rhodes is already very close to the goal of doubling the total number of arrivals of 2020.
The number of arrivals to the islands of the Dodecanese, Kos and Karpathos, in the first month of autumn remains satisfactory. More than 62.000 foreign passengers visited Kos until September 12, making the total number of air arrivals to the island to around half a million. Accordingly, flights to Karpathos’ airport resemble those of August and in ten days have reached 5.000.
The touristic strength of the Cyclades
Arrivals from abroad are still high in Santorini, and it has already received 45.057 visitors (up until September 12), a number that is over 10.000 travellers more than the total of visitors during the whole month of September last year.
Mykonos also has managed to reach the total of September 2020 in just the first ten days (30.620 visitors).
We should note that the above data doesn’t include passengers arriving from the ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’ international airport with local flights, nor does it include passengers travelling by boat.
