Vasilis Kyritsis, co-owner of the renowned bar The Clumsies and the newly arrived (and already awarded, by Michelin) Line, is preparing to address the audience at Greece Talks, the inaugural major conference on Greece and Tourism organised by Travel.gr on November 16th at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Centre’s Lighthouse. Just days before his appearance at the major event, Kyritsis shares his thoughts with us.

“It’s a real honour to be among the speakers at Greece Talks, surrounded by such significant global personalities. I hope my sector continues to bolster our country’s hefty industry,” he says. At Greece Talks, Kyritsis will speak about about the fascinating history and evolution of bars over time, as well as relating his inspiring personal journey in the bartending profession. He will be talking about the importance of innovation in the industry and how the Fine Drinking movement has contributed to Greece’s development.

“A bar has become a destination in itself, attracting many solely to explore new tastes and experiences. I’ll be explaining how a destination can draw visitors through Fine Drinking, a feat Greece is on its way to achieving too,” he adds.

Over the past 16 years, Kyritsis has been a bartender/mixologist at some of Greece’s most iconic bars, including Pere Ubu, Eclipse, Aperitif and The Gin Joint. In 2012, he was crowned Bartender of the Year at the Diageo World Class Greece competition, representing Greece in the global finals in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. For the last nine years, he has been instrumental in the success of The Clumsies, which was listed among the world’s best high-volume bars in 2016 and named the best new international bar at Tales of the Cocktail in 2015, and is now playing a leading role in running Line, a newly opened bar that has already received a Michelin Star.
