The Hellenic Confederation of Tourist Accommodation Entrepreneurs (SETKE) has completed and inaugurated the brand name smotel, aiming at the creation of a new generation of tourist lodgings in Greece.

Smotel is the last of three projects that SETKE has promoted in recent years (the other two being the Breakfast Basket and Experience Tourism), that will play a significant role in the transformation of the small lodgings sector. According to SETKE, the creation of smotel is a historic moment for the sector, as it enters a new era, but also for the wider hospitality sector since it will offer new, upgraded accommodation options. With this new brand name, tourist lodgings will be able to get certified, no matter their category or size, given that they offer upgraded and specialized services to clients, promoting the hospitality experience.

The sector’s businesses that meet specific requirements can be included in this new category of tourist lodgings. In order for lodgings to be certified by this new brand name they need to offer upgraded services, like the Breakfast Basket, while each establishment should also offer at least one kind of experience tourism. SETKE’s chairman, Panagiotis Tokouzis, speaking of the new brand name, mentioned that its aim is the creation of lodgings of upgraded quality that will establish themselves, in the post-pandemic era, as the new accommodation choice.

He also added that “what has emerged in the post-pandemic era is the intense desire of travellers for new, upgraded and authentic experiences, which can now be provided by smotel. SETKE’s new brand name is a reality, and it aims at offering modern travellers a different, quality accommodation option, changing the image of small tourist units. We hope for this new accommodation model to become established in Greece, and soon in Europe.”
