The belief that TUI will surpass the milestone of 3 million visitors to Greece in the next tourist season was expressed by the Group’s senior executives at a meeting today with Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias.
In particular, the meeting took place at the Ministry of Tourism with TUI Group’s Executive Board member and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Sebastian Ebel and the Group’s Executive Board member and Director of Corporate and External Affairs.
Mr Kikilias agreed with the Group’s senior executives that for 2022 TUI will start operating in selected Greek destinations from the end of March, while Mr Ebel and Mr Ellerbeck described Greece as one of TUI’s most important destinations worldwide and expressed their confidence that in the next tourist season the Group will surpass the milestone of 3 million visitors to Greece, previously achieved in 2019.
The agenda of the meeting included cooperation issues related to the TUI Academy in Athens, as well as sustainability issues, where the work of the TUI Care Foundation as a whole and in particular the Group’s sustainable tourism programme in Crete, which combines tourism with agricultural and fishing activities, offering visitors to the island an authentic tourism experience, were analysed.
The Minister of Tourism also raised the possibilities of promoting Athens as a year-round destination, especially during the autumn and winter months, and in turn TUI executives expressed their keen interest in this prospect.
In this regard, at the meeting with the President of the Athens-Attica and Argosaronic Hotel Owners Association Ms Lamprini Karanasiou-Zoulovits and the General Secretary of the Association Eugenios Vassilikos, which took place later today, Mr Kikilias presented to the hotel owners’ representatives the proposal of TUI and it was agreed to schedule in the near future a working meeting between the two bodies to further enhance the city’s Tourism Product.
