Kos was one of the first islands in the Aegean to attract large numbers of tourists, as far back as the 1930s when under Italian Rule. Boat trips run daily between the Turkish town and the Greek island. The most famous landmark on the island is the Asklepieion (temple of healing), which is just a few kilometres from the main town.
