Το νησί μου. Εκεί που αγαπώ τα πάντα και με ενοχλεί το τίποτα. Τι να σας πω για την Ικαριά μου; Δεν είμαι αντικειμενική. Για εμένα καλοκαίρι σημαίνει Ικαρία.
Βουτιές στη Μεσακτή που τώρα έχει και surf school για όσους αγαπούν τα κύματα. Κολύμπι, φίλοι, χοροί στους ρυθμούς της reggae μουσικής. Άλλο σημείο συνάντησης για μπάνιο είναι ο Κάμπος. Τη θάλασσα στην Iκαρία πρέπει να τη σεβόμαστε. Μας το επιβάλλει. Τα μεγάλα κύματα και τα υπόγεια ρεύματα κρύβουν κινδύνους. Έχουμε μάθει να κοιτάμε τις σημαίες πριν βουτήξουμε αλλά είναι και ένα κομμάτι της γοητείας της.
Ο νότος της Ικαρίας έχει τις Σεϋχέλλες για μπάνιο και το μοναδικό Τραπάλου. Έχει και την αγαπημένη μου παραλία που θέλει λίγο περπάτημα για να φτάσεις, κάτω από το εκκλησάκι του Αϊ Γιώργη.
Το απόγευμα βόλτα στον αγαπημένο μου Εύδηλο. Τοστ και παγωτό στον Αυγά, το καφενείο που έχει το καλύτερο τοστ στον κόσμο.
Ένα χωριό που αγαπώ πολύ είναι και η Ακαμάτρα. Με τους καλύτερους λουκουμάδες στου Λυγερή, το πιο παλιό καφενείο των Βαλκανίων. Και όταν νυχτώνει ανηφορίζουμε στις Ράχες για ένα κοκτέιλ (πάντα για ένα ξεκινάμε, γιατί σήμερα δεν θα αργήσουμε) στο αγαπημένο μου Δεντρόσπιτο.

Και το επόμενο κεφάλαιο είναι τα πανηγύρια. Εκεί που η αγκαλιά αποκτά νόημα, τα μάτια μας γεμίζουν δάκρυα όταν το βιολί ετοιμάζεται για τον μαγικό ρυθμό και ο αέρας γεμίζει ιαχές. Ο Βάκχος μας επισκέπτεται! Ο καριώτικος δεν είναι χορός, είναι η δικιά μου απόλυτη ελευθερία.
Η Ικαρία είναι γεμάτη βότανα και μυρωδιές. Όταν φτάνω πρώτα μου έρχονται οι μυρωδιές και μετά οι εικόνες. Οι γεύσεις στα ικαριώτικα ταβερνάκια είναι μοναδικές. Το Μαίρη-Μαίρη, το Καμπί, η ταβέρνα της Άννας, η Πόπη, η Πλάκα. Αξίζει να επισκεφτείτε το οινοποιείο του Καρίμαλη. Έχει και ξενώνα και μαθήματα μαγειρικής και υπέροχη θέα. Μα πάνω απ’ όλα έχει τους Καριώτες.
